In the Studio!
Most Paintings Need Some Final Touches

Once I have had two or three days painting on site, I return to the studio to contemplate my efforts and let the painting take me to its finale. The painting has its own  life now, true to itself,  and never what could be caught in a photo!

But some of my works like these come from my photos. These beautiful sunflowers were glimpsed on my way to Toulouse, and only had time for  photos.  The lace was a study of the infinite shades of white.

Wisteria Walkway with Yellow Urn is a larger studio work inspired by Wisteria Walkway, a plein air painting I did in Sonoma in 2011. So love the purples and cornflower blues of wisteria and how light and shadow dance in the walkway.  Painted in New Zealand.
