LOST in TRANSLATION
is a series of abstract and gestural paintings that explore miscommunication. Today we are able to connect globally, and share our words, thoughts and deeds instantaneously using social media. But.... Is what we write understood? Or, is what I said, what you heard? Do I know what you mean? Can you read my thoughts? Truth and lies are written and spoken, but can we tell them apart? So much data seems to bury our understanding. In October 2024 I returned to the easel to give expression to the importance of communication. I have painted a series (11 but growing) of unreadable, yet vaguely remeniscent of an hurried long hand manuscript, or arabic written right to left. Some prehistoric ochre pictographs, a language eternally unspoken. I hope the viewer will try to find a word, or phrase in the flowing script of these paintings. Our words are the amazing glue to connect us over space and time. Words are the time travelers, vessels carrying a treasure, an idea, a feeling, We are lost without them. Lost, without meaning. I hope someone will understand what these paintings say. If you do, please tell me what it saysI |
